    Alarm Story
How about that, no more awaking at O dark thirty, no more alarm clocks that wake me to some CD I thought I liked, only to have it repel me to its tune, due to the miserable sound of being forcefully awakened. Not a snooze button at all, only my choice of when I like to awaken or at the chance that my partner not having this gift, I putter on to be included in the morning rituals.
No more watching the news before bed. A change of years of this ritual, not a habit mind you but a ritual, like saying prayers, kissing your kids goodnight or brushing your teeth before bed. So take out one habit and one ritual and suddenly change that should be severe, is only a blip on the routine of an average day.
Suddenly the average day resembles a Saturday. Formerly a day filled with errands, enjoyments and everythings. I am still in a hurry to complete the stuff that will free my time for everything else. Rushing into everything else, by rushing into the stuff, that you have to get up early and stay up late to do.

Paul, I love this piece. Your write the truth with straight forward observations, telling it like it is. I especially like, “being forcefully awakened” and “. . . a ritual, like saying prayers, kissing your kids goodnight. . . ” and “So take out one habit and one ritual. . . ” Oh, geez, I like the whole thing! Thanks for posting.

I love the phrase “awaking at O dark thirty.” As an empty nester myself, with more time on my hands than I expected, I appreciate the thought that “I am still in a hurry to complete the stuff that will free my time for everything else.” This feels like an honest exploration of this stage of life.
