A riddle is a bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A bridge to the truth,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

arching over the angry, churning river<\/p>\n\n\n\n

that is our nation\u2019s canker.<\/p>\n\n\n

 <\/p>\n\n\n

The howling denials<\/p>\n\n\n\n

humiliating trials<\/p>\n\n\n\n

of fact versus fiction<\/p>\n\n\n\n

0ur country\u2019s affliction.<\/p>\n\n\n

 <\/p>\n\n\n

And the riddle is this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What lies on the other side?<\/p>\n\n\n

 <\/p>\n\n\n

A people of unity,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indivisible<\/p>\n\n\n\n

or a new status quo<\/p>\n\n\n\n

leaving gospel invisible<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we strive<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To thrive<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keep hope alive<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Compromise.<\/p>\n\n\n

 <\/p>\n\n\n

Calm the beast and keep the peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cross over that muddy sludge<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On a one lane bridge<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Feet dry<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expectations high.<\/p>\n\n\n

 <\/p>\n\n\n

Looking for the promised land,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pot of gold,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rainbow\u2019s end.<\/p>\n\n\n

 <\/p>\n\n\n

Yet the river remains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Always raging<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turning the soil<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trumpers loyal<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ready to spill over the banks<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and flood the fields<\/p>\n\n\n\n

of honest, hard-won crops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hatred never really stops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps we need a dam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Karen Ely was born and raised in Petaluma, California. Upon graduating from UC Davis, she worked in San Francisco and New York City in corporate finance. After a 30-year career as a mom and \u201cprofessional\u201d volunteer in Scottsdale, AZ, Karen returned to her beloved hometown in Sonoma County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
