California Winter<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wind turns the pages of rain<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

As drops splatter on the skylights,<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 beating a rhythm punctuated by<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 the cracks of unmoored oak limbs<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0hitting the roof.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0The rain chain dances,<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 brass acorns jingling,<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 water swooshing through its cups.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0The creek rushes over rocks,<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 gushes into the culvert and out again,<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 making its overground \/ underground way to the river.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The thirsty earth soaks it in,<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0filters it down into empty aquifers.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

One chapter ending, another beginning.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n
