writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLayering means that we&#8217;re\u00a0weaving in different elements of our story, characters, writing craft, etc. Some writers even start with just one element\u2014such as writing their whole story just as dialogue\u2014and then layer in everything else once they have the shape of the story.\u201d \u2014 <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jami Gold<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ideas to add layering in your writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Start with lists:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>List #1:<\/strong> Some facts about yourself or your fictional character<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>List#2:<\/strong> Favorite food or music<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>List #3:<\/strong> Favorite movies or TV shows<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>List #4:<\/strong> Philosophical sayings<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>List #5:<\/strong> A type of clothing or furniture<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Freewrite: #1:<\/strong> Using a word or phrase from each of the lists, spend a few minutes creating a piece of writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Freewrite #2, Layering:<\/strong> Add an outside event as a metaphor to echo the theme of your freewrite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you are writing about love,<\/strong> compare two people in love with two doves sitting on a wire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use the movie, \u201cLove Story,\u201d or the TV show, \u201cLove Boat,\u201d or a book one of the character picks up from the coffee table while waiting for the other person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the characters could pick up something from a loveseat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A pin in the shape of a heart could snag on a sweater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If your theme is death<\/strong>, use an analogy from the game of chess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Quotes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use quotes to mirror the theme of your writing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLove means never having to say you\u2019re sorry.\u201d \u2014 \u201cLove Story\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLove is heavy and light, bright and dark, hot and cold, sick and healthy, asleep and awake<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"24\" height=\"30\" src=\"\">it\u2019s everything except what it is!\u201d \u2014 \u201cRomeo and Juliet.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ideas to layer your writing:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use something from nature: Land formations, flora, vistas, terrain, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Something human-made: Buildings, dams, highways, art, transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use your imagination and create a memorable piece of writing by
