IF we tried, we would spend all our time reading about writing and not writing. But there are a few especially good how-to write books. Here are some of my favorites. What are your favorite writing books?<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Dorothea Brande\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dorothea_Brande\" target=\"_blank\">Dorothea Brande<\/a> was an early proponent of freewriting. In her book <em>Becoming a Writer<\/em> (1934), she advises writers to sit and write for 30 minutes every morning, as fast as they can.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Peter Elbow\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Peter_Elbow\" target=\"_blank\">Peter Elbow<\/a> advanced freewriting in his books <em>Writing with Power<\/em> and <em>Writing Without Teachers<\/em> (1975), and freewriting has been popularized by <a title=\"Julia Cameron\" href=\"http:\/\/juliacameronlive.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Julia Cameron <\/a>through her books <em>The Artist&#8217;s Way<\/em> and <em>The<\/em> <em>Right to Write<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>A few more writing books:<\/p>\n<p>Aronie, Nancy Slonim \u2013 Writing From the Heart<\/p>\n<p>Baldwin, Christina &#8211; Storycatcher<\/p>\n<p>Barrington, Judith \u2013 Writing the Memoir, From Truth to Art<\/p>\n<p>Baty, Chris \u2013 No Plot?
