The lines in italics in his poem are from signs on the wall and on the label on a bottle. He seamlessly incorporates \u201clines from others\u201d into his poetry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"has-inline-color has-very-dark-gray-color\">Look around you . . . what writing do you see that you can use in your writing?<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps: A book title, a greeting card, writing on d\u00e9cor, writing on a tissue box, or a piece of mail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or: A note you have written, writing on a coffee mug, a sign on a wall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A label on a jar, a can, or a bottle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also use song lyrics as a jumping off point for your writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Writing Prompt: Today . . . or . . . Yesterday<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Incorporate written words that you see into your writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A stanza from \u201cFargo Airport, Waiting in a Bar\u201d by Dave Seter:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Waiting for a funeral, it seems the years collapse<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>into one moment. A civil engineer and poet, he writes about social and environmental issues, including the intersection of the built world and the natural world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Born in Chicago, he now lives in Sonoma County, California. He earned his undergraduate degree in civil engineering from Princeton University and his graduate degree in humanities from Dominican University of California, where he studied ecopoetics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dave wrote his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.daveseter.com\/ecopoetics.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">master\u2019s thesis<\/a>, <span class=\"has-inline-color has-very-dark-gray-color\">\u201cIntroducing Godzilla to Marianne Moore&#8217;s Octopus of Ice at the Intersection of Global Warming, Environmental Philosophy, and Poetry,<\/span>\u201d based on Marianne Moore\u2019s collage poem, \u201cAn Octopus (of ice).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0\u201cThis paper explores the question: How can a poet write an ecologically aware poem about global warming?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I would like to share collage in writing with you, some things I learned from the poet Dave Seter.
