You probably know this, but perhaps you’re stuck with knowing how to achieve that. A big part is the revision process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following steps for revision are based on the Writer\u2019s Digest article.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Write Hot. Revise cool<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wait two weeks after writing to begin the revision process. Then, read fast as if you were a first-time reader. Take notes about what needs fixing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Capture original emotions you felt when writing.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Listen to music that evokes the mood of your story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMusic reaches a part of your mind that you usually have inactive when analyzing. Wake it up and put it to work with tunes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Create a collage to capture a visual representation of your work to keep you inspired and focused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scenes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Analyze every scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Make sure every scene is strong with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

~ A single point of view<\/p>\n\n\n\n

~ A clear objective for the character<\/p>\n\n\n\n

~ Tension<\/p>\n\n\n\n

~ Conflict<\/p>\n\n\n\n

~ An emotional struggle<\/p>\n\n\n\n

~ A compelling reason for the reader to keep reading<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Revision Process<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A crucial part of the revision process involves making sure all your details are as strong as they possibly can be, that no word is underutilized or wasted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sensory Detail<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you revise, determine where you can add sensory detail: visual, sound, taste, smell, touch, and extrasensory perception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Specific Details<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Give your characters distinguishing characteristics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gestures, repetitive actions, hobbies, food likes, facial expressions, musical preferences, jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
