I believe modern realism is art (theater, paintings, literature) imitating life. “Modernism” means the movement following the period of Romanticism— from exaggerated ideal landscapes or prose to realistic settings, dialogue, and situations —the opposite of “purple prose” or fantasy.The Cimarron site offers samples of a poem (plainspoken/unrhymed) and a short story in their latest issue for your perusal.
