Jumpstart Writing Workshops
A place to explore life experiences and turn them into meaningful stories.
We write to uncover personal truths, to revisit the past, to make sense of what happened—or simply for the joy of putting words on the page.
Participating in Jumpstart Writing Workshops is an opportunity for self-discovery, revelations, jubilations, and the excitement of discovering new thoughts.
Jumpstart meets on the Zoom platform.
Mondays
6:30 pm to 8:30 pm Pacific
Tuesdays
9:30 am to 11:30 am Pacific

Meet Our Facilitators

Marlene Cullen
Marlene Cullen believes everyone has a story to tell—even those who think they can’t write. She is the creator of The Write Spot anthologies, heartfelt collections that both entertain and gently guide readers with inviting prompts woven into every story, vignette, and poem.
Marlene creates welcoming spaces where writers feel safe, encouraged, and often wonderfully surprised by what they write at her Jumpstart Writing Workshops and through her blog, The Write Spot.

Susan Bono
Susan Bono is a teacher, freelance editor, and short-form memoirist who has facilitated writing workshops since 1993.
From 1995 to 2015, she edited and published Tiny Lights: A Journal of Personal Narrative.
Susan wrote What Have We Here: Essays about Keeping House and Finding Home.

Lakin Kahn
Lakin Khan, past Fiction Director of the Napa Valley Writers Conference and retired instructor of English at Napa Valley College and Sonoma State University, spends too much time these days trying to translate the language of birds. Her collection of nature and bird essays titled Home Turf, A Bestiary of Sonoma State, is illustrated by well-known printmaker Shane Weare, and is available mostly through Copperfield’s Books and a few other independent bookstores. Her Jumpstart Writing Groups are always an inspiration.
Jumpstart Guidelines
There is no such thing as “perfect writing” in Jumpstart.
This is your place to write whatever is on your mind.
Your writing doesn’t have to make sense.
Sharing our writing deepens and enriches the writing experience.
There is no judging, no critiquing, and no questions for clarification.
“Freewrites are a type of wild mind writing that doesn’t need to be analyzed nor dissected. It’s about the practice of writing and tapping into raw creative energy.” —Christine Falcon-Daigle
